TECD carries out the attestation and certification of welders, the practice test of welders to be employed and other activities of this kind. According to the orders from enterprises and the terms of applied standards, the Department develops procedures for welding pipes of different diameters and various brands of steel and performs certification of welders in line with these procedures. TECD has built up its activity in conformity with the requirements of international standards ISO/IEC 17024 - General requirements for bodies operating certification of persons and ISO 9606-1 - Qualification testing of welders and has been awarded international certificates. TECD carries out the certification of welders with 7 different methods (manual electric arc welding, metal arc inert gas welding, metal arc active gas welding, active gas-shielded metal arc welding, wolfram inert gas arc welding, oxy-acetylene welding and polyethylene welding) at the requests of different organizations, enterprises and individuals and the welders passing attestation are awarded certificates with “SOCAR” or international “TURKAK” logos thereon. With a view to performing the mentioned works in line with standards, supervising the welding process and giving a right opinion on the samples of welding performed by welders, the welding engineers working in the company have been certified as Welding Inspectors by international organizations. This, in turn, offers opportunities for us to execute the received orders with high quality. One of the most important works done in this direction was the establishment of the Gobustan Regional Training Center within the Training, Education and Certification Department considering the increasing demand for personnel. The classrooms in the Center have been equipped with up-to-date equipment and a modern welding workshop for training of welders has been set up. Cutting-edge welding machines (automatic, semi-automatic, manual arc, argon, etc.) complying with international standards have been installed in the workshop and conditions have been created for 40 welders to work at the same time. Machine tools for various purposes have also been installed in the workshop to prepare necessary parts for welders. A room equipped with a simulation device for welding has been set up in the training center to prepare welders for practice. Besides, there are welding workshops meeting high standards at the Personnel Development Center and the Sumgait Training and Education Center.
